Welcome to Yorkite!

6 Jun

Welcome to Yorkite! Whether it’s food, politics, arts or interviews you crave, we’ve got the York beat covered. If it’s happening in town, we’re talking about it. We know you don’t want to miss out on the next hit book launch, country fair or new brew, so we promise to bring you the best that this town has to offer, every day. With us around, you’ll never wear/see/do &c. something that is ‘just so 1812′ again.

Have something to say? Leave us a comment and we’ll get back to you. Have a hot tip? Send it to georgeloyalist@gmail.com

To bring you the best coverage, we have the best writers aboard.

ISABELLA  PETERSON

Fashion / Art / Music

Isabella is the second-youngest child of William and Georgiana Peterson of Lot Street. After an aunt back in England sent over a copy of Ackerman’s Repository to a then seven-year-old Isabella, our lass was hooked on fashion. Whether it’s about empire waists, aprons or bonnets, Isabella (or Izzie P, as we like to call her) will bring you the latest news in fashion (as soon as she hears about it). Also an accomplished singer and piano player, Isabella knows her way around a fine ditty.

ALEXANDER JOHNSON

News / City / Events / Editor in Chief

One of the brightest pupils to attend the Home District Grammar School, Alexander Johnson was the winner of the Stellar Student Speller award five years running. He apprenticed under John Cameron at the Upper Canada Gazette until the press was damaged in the American attack on York. Though the Gazette may be gone, Alex will still be there, always.

ADELAIDE FREDERICK

Interviewer Extraordinaire / Extras

When Adelaide’s father, Jonathan Frederick, enlisted, he sent her to live with an uncle. Accompanying Adelaide were four dresses, a few books, two pairs of shoes and a bottle of whiskey for the uncle with a note attached that read as follows: “Adelaide asks far too many questions for a young woman. You’ll need this or you’ll go mad.”

Well, we here at Yorkite appreciate Adelaide’s curiosity– and we’ll pour a shot of that whiskey and cheers to her.

GEORGE BERKELEY

Business / Literature / Historicite

The newest member of our staff, George can often be found roaming the shelves of the bookshop or chatting up Marshall at the pub. George, who also owns a small shoe shop, has a keen interest in local business and will be the first one to tell you about the folks that are rolling in the army dollars.
